The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is seeking an Assistant Director of Museum Affairs to assume direct responsibility of overseeing, directing, making decisions which impact the daily operation and management of SFO Museum, the Aviation Museum and Library, Registration, Collection Management, and the Museum Affairs unit. This position is a member of the SFO Museum Senior Staff and the Collections Review Committee, and works closely with all levels of Museum and Airport staff, local, domestic and international individuals and organizations. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual having an equitable and thoughtful approach to management and problem-solving; has excellent verbal and written communication skills; a collaborative mindset; and a strong sense of accountability. How to qualify

Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.

AND

Experience: Five (5) years of professional Museum and/or Public Art experience.

Education Substituti on: Additional qualifying experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to the maximum of 2 years). Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of aesthetic standards and American Alliance of Museums (AAM) standards
  • Knowledge of museum registration and collection management best practices
  • Knowledge of municipal organization budgeting and accounting processes
  • Knowledge of municipal personnel processes
  • Knowledge of computer database systems, especially FilemakerPro
  • Experience supervising professionals in a museum environment
  • Experience working in a fast-moving and dynamic environment
