Responsibilities
  • Supervises personnel by overseeing pharmacy operations and directly supervising pharmacy technicians and warehouse associates and technicians.
  • Monitors sterile compounding, technician, and shipping schedules, from entering accurate prescriptions into CPR+ system resulting in label and worksheet generation and information, formulation, laboratory data and progress notes.
  • Responsible for quality assurance related to sterile compounding. Reports quality assurance data to Quality Assurance Coordinator or Vice President of Pharmacy.
  • Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  • Maintains an appropriate inventory level of all critical supplies and materials.
  • Coordinates the daily sterile compounding and distribution operations.
  • Serves as the Designated Person for sterile drug compounding along with the Lead Pharmacy Technician.
  • Other duties may be assigned at any time via verbal or written instructions.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises pharmacy technicians and other operational personnel as required. Organizes and chairs regular operations meetings. Supervises and coordinates the activities of all technicians to ensure efficiency, accuracy, thoroughness, productivity, and professionalism. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies, State Board of Pharmacy regulations, and applicable employment laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, orienting, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; reviewing and approving timecards/ time off requests; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Registered pharmacist in the state of CA, and be willing and able to obtain additional state licenses as needed. Masters degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least three years of hospital pharmacy experience or clinical pharmacy residency. Maintain professional competence through professional organizations and continuing education. Participated in periodic educational opportunities. Contributes to the education of peers and the nutrition support literature via professional presentation and publications.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, consumers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumferences, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current Pharmacist License with Department of Consumer Affairs, respective State Board of Pharmacy. Verification of continuing education units as required by the state board of pharmacy. CEUs for respective state licenses are required every two years.
